How to add an AI chatbot to your website in 5 minutes
You do not need a developer to put an AI chatbot on your website. If you can paste a line of text into your site settings, you can have a working chatbot in about five minutes. Here is the exact process.
Step 1: Create your chatbot
- Go to onntservice.com/signup and sign up with your email (you get a one-time code) or with Google. The Free plan needs no card.
- Describe your business in a few sentences: what you sell, your timings, your prices if you want them shown, and the questions customers ask most. You can also paste your website address or upload a PDF such as a price list or menu, and the chatbot drafts the answers for you.
- Review what it drafted. Fix anything wrong and add anything missing. The chatbot only answers from this information, so a few accurate lines matter more than a long description.
Step 2: Copy your one line of code
Your dashboard shows a single line that starts with <script src="https://www.onntservice.com/widget-loader.js" ... >. Copy it exactly as shown. It already contains your chatbot's ID and colour.
Step 3: Paste it into your website
The code goes just before the closing body tag on every page where you want the chatbot to appear. Here is where that is on the common website builders:
- WordPress: install a free header and footer plugin such as WPCode, add a new snippet, paste the line into the Footer area and save.
- Shopify: Online Store, then Themes, then Edit code. Open theme.liquid and paste the line just above the closing body tag. Save.
- Wix: Settings, then Custom Code, then Add Custom Code. Paste the line, choose All pages, and place it in Body - end.
- Webflow: Site settings, then Custom code. Paste the line into the Footer code box and publish.
- Plain HTML: open your page in a text editor, paste the line just above the closing body tag and upload the file.
Step 4: Check that it works
Open your website in a new tab. A round chat button appears in the bottom corner. Click it and ask a question a customer would ask. In your dashboard, the Install section turns green and shows the website where your chatbot was last seen.
If the chat button does not appear
- Clear your website's cache or any caching plugin, then reload. Many sites keep serving the old page for a few minutes.
- Make sure you pasted the code on the live site and not only on a draft or preview.
- If you restricted the chatbot to certain websites in your dashboard settings, check that your website address is on the list, or clear the list.
- Still stuck? Write to us from the Contact page and we will help you install it.
What to do after it is live
Ask your own chatbot ten real questions from customers. Wherever the answer is weak, add that information in your dashboard settings. Then check your leads every day for the first week. The chatbot emails you each lead the moment it is captured.
